We are making this way too complicated. Hunting licenses were created to let you legally kill stuff ie take it out of the wild. The herping equivalent is collecting. Unless you are collecting, you should not need a license. Not to take pics, not to move off a road, not to chase down, and not to pose...

I was scratching my head over that snake too, but my first thought was Earth snake rather than Pinewoods, but I've only seen one of the former so, I'm no expert. What county was that one? Because I don't think they get very far south.

I rarely handle venomous, but failing to tap a snake on the tail with a 4 foot hook or a 6 foot monopod to save its life, is a pretty extreme position for someone who enjoys this hobby....

you need a lot of standardization. Consistent start and stop times. Consistent speed. Your observers need to have consistent skill/ vision. Well, I have two clutches of Yunnan Beauty eggs I'm waiting on...

They are quite rare in the US, and top out at about 6-7' as opposed to the Blue's 10'. :)
