Awesome! Even more amazing, is the fact that they posed for such nice photos.. when we find em in the desert down here, they are usually very spooky.
Nice finds!

Re: Habitat destruction and redemption in L.A.
Paul- yeah, we have lost too much, lowland habitat in LA... I believe the zonata were found many more places and boas also, might have ranged down much lower into the basin, in drainages like the San Gabriel. I didn't know about helleri in there, but I have seen and heard about them, in that part of...

A couple years ago, Brian and I checked a sump in the late afternoon. We saw some alligator lizards, but when Brian lifted a good-looking board in the twilight he stared at it for a second and then started running and yelling like crazy across the bottom of the sump. It had a bee-hive underneath it....

 Yeah, Brian's actually been there too. I've only seen and heard of gopher snakes there, but certainly, others could be possible.. I've been walking around looking, flipping concrete and boards, from about the age of 6 or so.. long as I can remember. This is where my dad first showed me how you...

A quik stroll through the ballpark...
Before the game today, I walked over to the field across the street from my dads house, to check a little line I'd set up, only about a month ago.. I used to find gophers out on the crawl here as a kid and hadn't seen one in years, and never flipped one either. As I walked over to my second set of b...

This is one of the more interesting threads I've seen to date. Everybody's points are good. The dodgers are a great team, much longer history than the Angels. Many great players wore that uniform.. Brians depiction of events is of coarse a little skewed. He hates Omaley for the same reasons I do, be...

Lou, thats another cool king you've found! No doubt, due to the tail, I would classify it as an SD striper. I also recognize, that from aproxomatly San Juan Capistrano to Oceanside, both types probably intergrade.. and that king looks to fall into that catagory. I also find the amount of hyper melan...

50/50 wide banded, desert phase kings are found in LA, Kern, San Bernadino, Riverside, and San Diego. Also probably occasionally found out of state..
