Re: ID help on Pantanal geckos

For those of us in the Americas, most Hemidactylus are introduced species, and most are known from Florida [with the Sri Lankan H.parvimaculatus just recorded from New Orleans]. There was a paper a while back which provided a key to Florida species...I'll see if I can track down a link [found it]. T...

Re: KuanKuoShui NR, China

I would guess the marbled green frog to be Odorrana schmackeri.

Re: KuanKuoShui NR, China

The salamander appears to be Tylototriton broadoridgus , a member of the T.wenxianensis complex. This appears to be a new locality, but I would expect this taxon to account for all records of T.asperrimus or T.wenxianensis in Chongqing, western Hubei, northwestern Hunan around the type locality, far...

Those look more like snail eggs than salamander eggs of any kind.

Re: Mexican relative of L fisheri ??

Yes. You can find at least two relevant papers with a Google Scholar search for Lithobates chiricahuensis potosi. Northern populations of L."chiricahuensis " in most of the Mogollon rim of Arizona are L.fisheri . Southern [Sky Island] populations and those of the eastern rim and NM are L.c...

Re: Montana Tailed Frog.

Giants have certainly been recorded at more than one location in Montana. I've found them myself, although I suspect it was at a more or less known locality [ie, same stream system if not the same location]. It seems likely they will be found much more widely in Montana, once eDNA sampling is more w...

Re: Herps & Habitat: Forest Pond Life

Joe, I have seen neotenic (neotene) and paedomorph interchangeably in the literature. Maybe someone can enlighten us on the differences?? Technically, the two are different, although to a certain degree they ARE interchangeable. A paedomorph is an organism in which adults retain juvenile traits. Th...

Re: NM & AZ w/ some Chile (S.America) - too long, so scroll

Great series of pictures! With accompanying text, it would make a great book. Some recent taxonomic reviews could affect the identities of some of the animals photographed, though I can't tell without locality data: Lithobates chiricahuensis - Madrean sky islands Lithobates fisheri - Mogollon Rim [M...

Re: Forest Park Wildlife Report

The "Aneides" pictured on the caudata forum link looks like P. dunni. Me too. I thought about it for a while, but I can vaguely see webbed toes, is this my imagination? The stripe also looks to patchy to be Plethodon dunni . You definitely have a good point though. Nightsnakeman I have re...
