Ensatina have a constriction at the tail base near the vent. As a juveniles they have stout bodies and rather short tails. This salamander has a relatively lengthy body and no tail constriction. Thanks for the kind responses. Loreto is an awesome place, someday I would like to drive the entire peninsular, or at least to Bahia de Los Angeles. Not sure when i'll get around to doing that, but i'm sure it will be either before or after driving to Alaska. :beer:

Very cool and some pretty neat Herps too. I would rather go on a herp'n trip than any other. I would even pass up going to Disneyland or whatever, to be in the desert or woods. Matter fact, i still choose going herp'n over any other birthday treat. :thumb:

Thanks everyone. My wife and son liked the hotel too, so while they enjoyed the pool or beach, I went off walking the hotel grounds or road cruising. The day before leaving I found some very cool remote roads that looked great for future exploring. The many islands around Loreto also looked awesome....
