Re: Bagging snakes for photos?
Keeping a herp in a bag for a quick photograph later seems to be better than other cases I've seen where an individual animal is prodded into various poses for half an hour or more by a large group of photographers. At least the bag is dark and snug, compared to the open/vulnerable sensation from a...

Wow, I can't believe I was right. When I googled photos of Florida Brown Snakes, they had different colors and patterns. But the shape of the head still looked the same and the eye placement. Is this species really variable from region to region?

Looks like a Florida Brown Snake to me. But I'm extremely uneducated in regards to Florida-herps, so don't take my word for it. I did a quick google search, but I'm almost 100% positive I'm wrong! I did enjoy your photos though

We should be able to do another two hundred or so, though we have almost no backlog. The recent rains are really helping. Two days ago Nicholas vouchered 53 Coast Range Newts in the afternoon, and 61 CA Toads in the evening. Each hike was only about 90 minutes. My guess is that after laying low for...

I didn't turn up too many crotes this year. In years past, all I would ever find were rubers and specks, but I tried to focus my efforts on other species as much as possible.
