I own and lease a large amount of land , and one thing that drives me crazy, are trespassers. I would never give permission to someone I caught trespassing! Re: Seeping in the wintertime
Good call Kyle!
The snow actually makes it easier to find the seeps. They're always exposed no matter how deep the snow.
You inspired me to run out tomorrow to a seep I know.
BTW, the snow's 2 foot deep and we had below zero temps this morning, but as you said, the critters will be there.

Re: What is a 'true' coastal?
One reason some folks don't bother with this topic is it's a severely beaten dead horse, not to mention nobody has ever answered any of the questions to anyone else's satisfaction. You could compile a very thick book of threads from all the various forums over the years, and that's just the hobbyist...

Here's a quick tidbit I just extracted online. Pressed for time so skim read it only. Looks like what we're talking about. "Massachusetts does provide a tax incentive that specifically addresses access, however it is not mandatory to receive current use valuation for open space land. Land enrol...
Re: Getting Landowner Permission
If landowner has something to hide though, like a patch of weed out near the rock outcropping you saw on google, good luck. That's another really good point that shouldn't be taken lightly. When I was stopped by a warden on posted land in NC [having risked it on the forgivness is easier than permis...

Wow! What very, very cool post! I'm sooo envious of your opportunities, and after dropping out too! You're living the life that was a constant day dream for me 30 - 40 years ago, in the days of Marlin Perkins, when it seemed to be as far out of reach as being a successful treasure hunter. Damn I wis...
Re: Getting Landowner Permission
many landowners are environmentally friendly/or looking for a tax write-off. if any amount of their land is CRP, that portion of the land is fair game. i know there is a place to get that info here in wisconsin, but i'm not sure where exactly. something to look into. the nice thing is that this lan...

Actually until about 20 years ago the only chameleon most Americans ever heard of was green anoles. I think I paid $5.00 for a "chameleon" in 1972 so his prices ain't bad, although I'm sure they're brown "chameleons".

it makes a big difference where you are. In suburban New England, if you have long hair, an Obama sticker on your jap car and can use the word "anti-hunter" favorably in a sentence, you're in. The same approach can get you shot elsewhere. :? A lot of the posted rural areas I explored...

Re: Looking for some chameleons in the glades
It is well known that releasing exotics in Florida is illegal. Come on, yer kiddin me right???? So when you said; You sure raising chameleons outdoors on one's own property is illegal? you were reffering to yards with big huge covered fences, giant cages? Even in Fl that would be stretching it. :lo...

You sure raising chameleons outdoors on one's own property is illegal? I would agree that it is illegal to release them on other property. Actually, no I don't. I realize we're talking Fl. here so I suppose anything is possible. I do know in [I'm guessing here] 49 other states in the USA, releasing...

Re: Looking for some chameleons in the glades
People ranch "exotic" animals on their property all the time. Chickens, bees, goats, cows, etc. Why draw a distinction for chameleons? I'm just saying how it is. I don't condone, condemn, or even really care. I'm surprised I've failed so badly to make my point. Maybe if I could paint a pi...

I'm not sure exactly what you're saying except that certain pro-collectors release exotic species. . . it's been happening since the 60s and earlier. What I am saying, very specifically, although it should have been crystal clear, is that some of the responses in THIS thread, plus a couple hints I ...

Mike, As an invasive species ecologist; I can tell you there is a difference between "exotic" and "invasive," a line which chameleons (in FL) have never been supported to cross. They live in disturbed areas filled with exotics and no documented effect on native species has yet b...

Dang! Started 2010 back in Feb with a long eared owl. Very cool bird, doing the bent stick impression so often pictured in books and online. Coming this spring I may be assisting a local conservation group with a nesting survey for turtles. I'm really good at recognizing nesting habitat and know the times of year and times of day. Good stuff Andy! It's cool how your fauna is so similar to mine [blandings, jeffersons, spotted sallie, eastern milks etc] yet so different [fox, 'saugas, lizards]. Managed to find the barnacle goose today. Still hanging near the prison but today the flock of canadas he hangs with were in a corn field across from a soccer field that had safe parking. I've noticed the suburban populations in my area don't seem to have any large individuals. Some populations can be quite numerous but even staking out den sites you never see a true big one. A non-herping friend, ex-pat American living in Thailand, sent me this pic taken in his backyard. Not a lot of details so maybe too much to ask but couldn't hurt.
