Re: Ringtail Cats
I've seen a few armadillos in southern MO. I got pretty close to one this summer, I thought it was going to let me get close enough to grab it, but when I got within about 3 feet it shot through the underbrush like a cannon!!! No exaggeration, it was LOUD when that thing took off. I imagined somethi...

Re: "rattlesnake kate" - this is so weird...
Kate gained national fame on October 28, 1925, by shooting and clobbering 140 rattlesnakes to death in two hours. That says it all. Indeed. I don't believe for a second the story went down the way she claims it went down. I think she just went and killed a shit load of snakes and made up an ...

Re: A Tip for Getting Your Snake to Soak More Often
The nice thing about the aerated water bowl is that I don't have to constantly check the substrate. As long as there's still water in the bowl there's humidity in the enclosure. When the air bubbles burst they spray the surrounding area with little droplets of water, so it does kinda keep the substr...

If you're allowing them the right choices and good microhabitats, they shouldn't *need* to soak in thier dishes regularly. I've found humid hides filled with fairly damp moss to be invaluable in this though they can be problematic for larger species. The last time I provided him with a damp area to...

A Tip for Getting Your Snake to Soak More Often
Got a snake that doesn't like to soak in his water bowl? This can be particularly frustrating when it leads to patchy and incomplete sheds. This year I added air pumps and bubble stones to each of my snakes' water bowls, and now my stubborn snakes love soaking! The bubbles serve three distinct purpo...
