Im not really sure why everyone is freaking out, people post pictures of nasty DORs all the time, at least its not nasty. And its clear that he was wishing everyone a happy July 4th, the article is about the rattlesnake being a symbol of the U.S. Why are some people so lazy?

I believe the above animal was dead, Barry posted it up in a previous post that the animal did not make it through a cold spell near snake road.

Random road cruising update: Night of the Copperhead

Decided to take a spontaneous trip to Bankhead National Forest located in Northwest Alabama to do some road cruising this evening. Will be out there from 5pm till I get bored. Josh, I have noticed it this year as well.. I definitely have been out into the field more, but the quality of finds (more rare stuff) has been up there for sure! Maybe it's the weather... its been way different here than normal years.

Good stuff Tim. I always liked the "random day" posts from last year. I'll have to give it a go myself sometime soon. I don't know if id be able to stick with it on a rainy day like that though. I particularly enjoyed the Water Snakes and the Salt Marsh Snake. Thanks for enduring it for us...

Thanks everyone, the Mole Kings in this area are beautiful, though I have not found an adult yet. I hope to before the end of the year. That coachwhip was AWESOME!! We actually found a pair chasing each other across the road but were only able to corner 1 of them.

Thanks for all the kind words everyone, the calligaster has definitely been the highlight of the year so far! But the Milk Snake was equally as awesome because I have been searching for one since last year. I am hoping to find a method to the madness so to speak on the Milks in this area..

David, you are in the Birmingham area correct? We need to meet up sometime soon (i'm in Huntsville) for some herping. I've always wanted to herp Oak Mountain State Park.

Have you tried letting it crawl around (i.e get away from you) to exhaust it? This usually works when trying to photograph larger snakes, they aren't like us and they will tire out eventually..

Awesome Chris. So far this year I have found Ringnecks, Earth Snakes, Black Kings and Racers. I'm going to hit up the local swamp one day this week and see what aquatic stuff I can find. Hoping for Yellow-bellys, Cottons, and crossing my fingers for a Mud Snake.

Ringnecks are out (at least here) already. Flipped 5 under rocks just the other day (March 1st), as well as an earth snake. Temps were in mid 70s and sunny.

Since the weather was just too nice day (78 degrees) decided to get out for a random day.

In a short 3 hours I found:

5 Diadophis punctatus, 1 Lampropeltis getula nigra, 1 V. v. valeriae, 2 Coluber constrictor

tons of lizards and sallies as well

Yeah, I think he just misinterpreted you Kevin, they are really exciting to catch, which is why you were disappointed. EIther way thanks for the comments. I'm glad you found an EDB, im sure that was really exciting, probably even more so than a python.. i'm sure i'll find one soon :thumb:
