Re: May Milkathon!
I've been back to the area, but I didn't find any snakes. The small area where I used to find them got bulldozed and covered with gravel. One interesting thing I've noticed though, is that the immediate areas around wells that have been capped for a few years seem to be great places to find snakes. ...

I used to find a lot of milks at one of my spots in North-Central PA, but that turned into a gas well last summer, so as of now I'm out of places to find them. Other than that one spot, they seem to just turn up randomly like mountain earth snakes. I never really expect to find them, but I'm h...

While looking over some older posts on the herpetoculture forum, I couldn't find a single topic about green iguanas. Does anyone else on here keep them? I have one six year old that I keep in a large shower stall with a heater and a UVB lamp on a timer, as well as a humidity system on a timer.

I spend three weeks in July every year on the eastern shore of Virginia. The ONLY herps I have ever seen there are water snakes, fowlers toads, and bullfrogs. Timber rattlesnake sex can be determined with a subcaudal scale count. 21 or more is a male, although I'm unsure of how to tell the gender of other species.

Re: rattlesnake roundups ?
Why? Because people want to kill them. Whether for meat, hide, stupidity, or whatever your reason, the people who kill one male timber rattlesnake over 42 inches during the season in a legal manner are not the ones that I consider to be causing a huge drop in the population. I've seen a basking area...

horridus does that occasionally too. I've encountered one snake that hissed, but didn't rattle, and another that struck my leg without any rattle or hiss. I was walking through tall ferns and stepped about 6 inches from it's head without knowing it.
