Well, where is he? Once you've found him, I'll unlock more pix :-)

Hans, in gaming mode today

Climbing up the tree that angles up and to the right from the center of the photo. To the immediate right of the bright spot of sky in the upper center.

What is it? Looks big.

No, sorry, that's the tree :-) Next!

Hint: it's quite small....

I should have known. That would have been too easy. I do see another little squiggle, but I'll give someone else the chance to embarrass themselves.

It's coiled up on the rock ledge on the bottom-ish left side where the middle tree is coming out of the rock...looks like a pope's or white-lipped.
Basically, 2 inches right and 3 inches up from the bottom of the picture.

Hot dayum! We have a winner!!!! And here's your prize: the same scene taken with flash, the Viridovipera (was: Trimeresurus) stejnegeri, aka Chinese Bamboo Viper clearly visible on said ledge!

A few more of the beast itself:

It was bizarre to see this little guy in broad daylight. I had just discovered this beautiful ravine (the rocks, the bluffs, the leaf litter, the tangled jungle, the creek - everything just screamed PARADISE FOR SNAKES AND HUMANS ALIKE) and was busy scanning cracks in the rocks, when I saw this green little squiggle right out there in the open. Of course, the left side of my brain didn't believe it (what must not be, cannot be!), so I had to do a triple take before I realized that I was looking at a nocturnal snake basking at 3 PM.....

Some more ambiente. All this less than two miles behind our house - I think I'll spend a LOT of time in that place over the next days and nights!

I saw that snake in like .00413 seconds (yes, I timed myself), but didn't post becasue he wasn't wearing glasses or a red and white hat. Someone needs to read up on his 2009 official "Where's Waldo" rules. The dolphin drinking a martini was much harder to spot.

They are such pretty snakes but certainly blend well with the habitat.

What an awesome looking animal. Vipers are the one thing were missing here in Australia, cant have it all i guess :D

Nice spot, i know how hard it can be to spot herps in the shade.

I bet you don't have Stinky Tofu either. You can't call a country civilized until there's Stinky Tofu to be had!

Don't knock it before you've tried it. It's one of the reasons why I'll never move back to Germany again.
