The app loaded on my iPhone (3GS) just fine. I tried entering a record to test it, and it all went well until the end. It just stalls on the Sync Records page with a messege that says "Syncing record 1 of 1". When I'm at the Pending Records page and I push the Sync Records button, it flashes "logging on" for just a second and then it just hangs on "Syncing record 1 of 1".

I've tried syncing in both Wi-Fi and 3G mode. Any suggestions? :(

How long did you let it sit?

*EDIT* To clarify on this a bit more. When you sync the records, the app is submitting the full sized image saved from your camera. Depending on your connection, it may take some time. The API used to upload files does not currently offer a way for me to display the progress of the file upload. If we can coordinate a time for you to try to sync your records, I can watch on the server end to see what might be going on.

I let it sit for at least 30 minutes. There was no voucher image. Do you have to have an image? I'm at work right now and I don't have access to my phone, so I can't try it again right now, but I'll PM you when I can try again. Thanks

Doh! That might be why, I hadn't tested to see what the behavior was when no voucher was present. I will need to add some code to check for that.

This app is great!!! very fast and easy to use and coded well. thanks for all the hard work and well worth the .99. Sadly I will admit i will be much more inclined to enter ALL of my finds(even small/common ones) due to the convenience and ease of this app!

You know, I hate it when things break, but I have no explanation for why it broke, but at least I have a fix. Anyways, have yet another update pushed up before the previous update was even approved.

Downloaded the update too. Have not used the updated version yet.

One thing I noticed last weekend (using the first version) is that when I synced the records, some of the vouchered photos were rotated (photo was not displayed this way on the phone).

App is great overall!! Really appreciate all your hard work Don!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nice. The voucherless records work fine now. The records sync very quickly on my old iPhone 3GS.

One minor glitch: When a record is submitted from the mobile app, the age field defaults to "egg" and the sex field defaults to "male". It's easy enough to fix this later with an edit using my PC, but it might be nice to clean that up so that inaccurate records don't proliferate. Some users will likely not edit those mistakes.

Better still would be the addition of a few more fields, but I understand that requires lots more work. If you get the time and decide to add more fields, my wish list would include:

Qty:
Age:
Sex:
Notes:

Thanks for providing this great tool.

I have noticed that the app seems to rotate my photos on occasion. I have also noticed that records spanning multiple days do not follow a standard order (I know you mentioned that they are sorted by time... but can they be sorted by date AND time?).

Keep up the great work!

Some cameras (or apps using the camera I guess?) Don't actually store a rotated photo. They store it in the normal horizontal format, and then flag it as a rotated image in the EXIF data. My resizing scripts on the site do not take that EXIF flag into consideration, mainly because I have never looked into how to read it. It is something I will need to look into for the future.

Well, it synced the first two okay, but then seemed to stall out. I retried it and got an error message-

index.html

unable to parse JSON string.

It does not appear to be syncing at all now. I get the error message every time I try it.

The next thing I tried is deleting the one it was erroring on and syncing again, that worked, the rest synced just fine.

If you have that happen again, let me know. One other person had that issue as well, and I need to find out what it is about those records that are causing issues.

As I am going back to the records to add more info, it looks like all of the times entered are two hours later than when they were actually found.

Hmm... it seems as if the app is grabbing time in UTC, and then being converted to the local time of the server... but the time stamp returned from your phone SHOULD be your local time zone... I will need to look into this more.

At this point it appears that all of my voucher photos are rotated, which means they need to be replaced manually (not sure you can even delete the rotated ones). Also, it does not keep the records in the order they were found, which makes it a problem to go back and add more info based on hand written notes. It also seems to still stall out as I pointed out earlier, I am attempting to sync right now and one has been syncing for over 15 minutes.

I think once the bugs are worked out, this will save a ton of time entering records. That's if I can manage to take a decent photo with this iphone contraption.

Are you able to use that to locate the HerpRecords folder on the phone, and send me the files that are in it? Only if you haven't deleted the record that won't sync though.

Also, when you are taking photos, are you holding the phone vertically or horizontally?

So, after playing with the app on my iPhone, I am assuming you hold the phone in the normal upright position when taking pictures?

Image rotation was fixed server side, no update required to the mobile app. Still need copies of those records that won't sync so I can find out why.

Yeah, I just use the camera in the vert postion. Good deal on the rotation thing.

How would I send you one of these? After they partially synced (seems like everything but the photo), I deleted them. The rest disappear after they sync. I can send you one if it happens again, if you can tell me how to send it to you.

Also, is there anyway to delete and replace or rotate the photos that were already uploaded?

Next time it doesn't sync. Just hit the back button to stop syncing.

http://www.macroplant.com/iexplorer/

Then use that to browse the phone and find the HerpRecords folder. I will try to locate an exact location here in a bit.

Ok, first off, the iExplorer programs says it requires iTunes, but it also requires Quicktime, just in case anyone else has issues with it not starting.

After you run it, on the left side it says "Apps". If you expand that, you will see an entry for com.naherp.HerpMobile. In there is a folder called Documents, and inside that a folder called HerpRecords. All vouchers and record data are saved in there.

Think this app will ever be compatable with the Ipod? It would be cool to be able to save the info with out it searching for a wifi connection. The kids got jealous lol

It should work with iPods now. You can save the info locally to the device, and later when you have a wifi connection, it will sync the records. The only issue you may have is whether or not your device has GPS.

This app is slick and will save a lot of time.

i have tried to use the 3g version of this app twice with no luck. It could be that I am not smart phone savvy as the only reason i picked one up was to do HERP records. I have the app loaded on an iphone and i can get all the way through the point where i take pics, i then hit continue and the next screen gives me two options; delete record or back I never get to sync the record and I can't find it later. Any ideas?

If you hit back does it take you to the main menu, or back to the page to save the record?

They should both do the same thing. It's supposed to take you to the page to view there record after you save it, and then hit back to goto the main menu. It was a confusing choice I made, but that's what it's supposed to do. Later versions will give a message saying the record was saved, and return to the main menu.

after i take a pic to add to the record or when i do a record without a pic i hit save record, the screen flashes to what looks like the main page then goes to a page that says view record at the top with a back button, and has a delete record radial in the middle of the screen.
