possible database error - scientific name

Post by soulsurvivor » August 5th, 2012, 4:45 pm

I'm trying to enter a 6-lined racerunner. Unless their scientific name has changed recently, I believe they are still Cnemidophorus sexlineatus, but the database does not offer "sexlineatus" as an option.

Their scientific name was changed by Reeder, Cole & Dessauer back in 2002 to Aspidoscelis sexlineata, along with the other North American whiptails formerly placed in Cnemidophorus, based on mtDNA, morphology and allozyme data.

Thanks guys. My field guide lists them the old way, and even when I googled, I still came up with the old name. That's another one to notate in my book!

When in doubt, view the species lists listed on the left side of the page.
