Server issue

Post by Don Becker » August 22nd, 2012, 8:38 am

The primary hard drive on the server crashed this morning. A new hard drive has been installed, and I am in the process of restoring sites from backup. Backups were last run on Sunday, so any records entered since then have been lost.

Psyon,

I just noticed that when I reenter my lost vouchers, the photos seem to load okay, but the vouchers don't appear to show up on the record. (Though the voucher icon is there on the "view my records" page.) In fact, it seems that voucher photos aren't appearing on any of the records, including those from before 8/17. This might just be some weird thing with my computer, but I thought I should let you know, in case it's related to the server problem.

Thanks for everything, and sorry you have to deal with headaches like this.

oh, and the vouchers directory did not exist due to the way they are backed up as well. thats why it didn't save them on the new records. Should be there now. Just upload the vouchers to the records again please.

I probably jumped the gun, but just letting you know, photos are still not uploading for me.

Crap. Is data uploaded via the iPhone app stored in the app anywhere after it has been synced? I've begun using the app to upload records recently while road cruising, so I have no other record of my records from Sunday evening. Guess I'll have to go back to vouchering with my camera and uploading when I get home just to be safe.

I, for one, certainly appreciate all the work Psyon does to keep this thing up and running. Hard drives crash and it’s great that it was backed up as recently as Sunday. Also, hard drives aren’t free, but he’s replacing it anyway.

No :( They are only stored on the phone until they are sync'd.

No worries. I guess it's a good excuse to get back out to that area again. I appreciate all the effort you put in to keeping things running as smoothly as they do.

I've just begun learning to use the app and hadn't really thought about the logistics of backing those records up. I'll just make a point of emailing myself copies of any records I upload with the phone from now on. In most cases, I should be able to fill in the rest of the data from memory.

I am able to add photos fine, and other records are showing up fine as well. Are you guys receiving any error messages?

no error messages

Everything goes into the record except for the photo. The page acts like it's processing the photo as usual, but it isn't uploading.

Everything else looks like normal.

Is there some sort of setting in the personal account settings that may be blocking it or something?

Nope, everything seems to be working as normal. after I hit submit, I get a little status message in the bottom left that say uploading and gives the percent complete, but when the record page loads the photo is not there. I have tried in google chrome and firefox.

As someone in the industry, I would like to applaud your efforts to get everything restored from Backup. It's not an easy task.

Thank you kindly for that effort, some of us have made the DB there herping lifes work.

Our records are still there... A Personal "Thank YOU For That"

Thanks from me, too, Don. Though I have no personal experience with these things, I imagine it's a huge headache and a lot of work. And you don't even get paid for it. That's more than anyone can ask.

Damn. I lost like 20 records including some county records.
Fortunately I still have all the mp3s, photos and GPS coordinates.

I guess I should have backed my own records up at the end of each long entry session. :(

Don,
When you get a chance, you may want to check the "subscription notifier".

I'm suscribed to this thread, this forum and several other forums, but not getting notifications of new posts. I'll bet the mishap shut that feature off too.

Ok, server is temporarily black listed because it was identifying as the wrong host name. I have fixed that, and went through the delist procedure, and how we just have to wait.
