From the "why hasn't anyone thought of this before?" file. :thumb:

Great opportunity to show the importance of recording EVERYTHING, even common-as-dirt or "uninteresting" finds!

Exactly..... No one can foresee what is needed or what will be needed in the future... "No one"

Want to know something pathetic? I have a total of 7 records in the database for this species.

I have probably seen 70,000 of them! I could find 7 on my house in 10 minutes if it wasn't cold right now.

And I should have records going back 25 years for Texas as well.....but there was no NAHerp back them to keep me recording data. :(

Someone, somewhere is interested in Red-backed Salamanders. And when they find our database they will have hit the jackpot :D .

I asked Greg if this was going to be an ongoing project, and he replied with the following.
Hi Brian,

Yes, this is an ongoing project so having records next summer would still be of tremendous use. We still need as many records as possible now because these will be incorporated into a publication on the currently known range of the geckos. More importantly, we will use this info for structuring future plans for a large scale collaborative research project examining whether there is local adaptation to different climatic regimes across the diverse climates now occupied by geckos in the US.

So, yeah, data now, data later, the more data the better. And kick ass that so many folks are volunteering their time to get more records. This is great!,

Thanks much!,

Greg
So please continue to record any new records of MHG's you may come across or any locations you know about, but didn't record previously. He will submit a new request next summer or so.

I found the 1st one in the Victor Valley (to my knowledge) some 6 or 7 years ago, before joining Nafha... sent it to Fowley, who sent it to Grismer, who Id'd it as a Pan-Asian Day Gecko. To this day, not sure what it actually was, that I found.
Now... Meds can be found across the Victor Valley... I believe they come in on Lumber shipments to Lowes/Home Depot's, ect and spread out from those locations. jim

Make sure you record some in the spring for us, so we can add them to the next summer request. :thumb:

I stated over and over again in my chapter posts that you have to have contact me if there are records added. Any records added after the request have to be added manually be Don.

And I won't add any after voting has started. Only during the discussion phase.
