I agree that this has terrible potential impact on the native species, but, because of the location in the Caribbean, one can't help but wonder if an eradication program would be in order, if Boas had floated across from the mainland on a debris raft after a hurricane or the like.
Just a thought.

It's interesting (confusing?) that the article doesn't mention the Puerto Rican Boa.
People on FHF worry about inadequately trained participants in the Everglades python hunt being unable to distinguish between burmese pythons and the snakes native to South Florida. Imagine hundreds of untrained searchers in Puerto Rico hacking away at big snakes, perhaps not knowing the diff between a common boa and a Puerto Rican Boa.

How closely related are Common Boas and Puerto Rican Boas? How likely are they to interbreed?
