Re: Alligator Decline in Everglades National Park?
I know they've started restoring some of the water flow by building a bridge on the Tamiami Trail. I don't know if you've ever drive that road, but before the bridge, it effectively served as one giant dike that was holding back all the water that flows from the north. Bringing back the natural hydrology of the Everglades is essential to saving it. Once that make headway in that area, I think we'll see a lot of benefits. Unfortunately, that will take some time. The state purchased some cane sugar lands south of Lake Okeechobee with the plan of converting that farmland into wetlands, but I think that process has been delayed.
The gators will always be there in the Everglades, and hopefully one day they'll be healthier.

The whole area is going to be screwed by the end of the century because of climate change and sea level rise. I suspect it will be around this time Congress provides the money needed to make the proper restorations for the problems we see now.
