Potential snake gassing ban killed by TPWD

I know we all have a biased opinion, but this is just messed up. Isn't the pouring of gasoline on the ground or anywhere else illegal anyway? The article claims, "As long ago as 2012, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service listed petrochemical exposure as a threat to some of the tiny animals – spiders and the like – that live in limestone crevices.", like nothing else is affected at all. As if it isn't destroying small habitats, displacing or killing anything else living there at best and at worst seeping into the ground for years spreading carcinogens far and wide (if it is unfortunate to hit the water table). No one would gas a cat to get it out from under your bed, why the hell should these people be able to actively contaminate environments for their own absurd gatherings?
