Photo organization methods?

Post by Soopaman »

How do you organize your photos? I currently feel my folder system is inadequate.

It is currently: Locale > Species > Date > Specimen Number

I think it may be more organized to go to: State > County > Species > Date > Specimen Number

Of course, I could tier another folder in to group certain herps before the species folder, so either "snakes", "frogs", "salamanders", etc.

What works well for you?

I organize my photos by subject in chronological order. For example, I have seperate files for: mammals, reptiles, amphibians, birds, insects, arachnids, flowering plants, etc. I also use a program (Photoshop Elements 10) that allows me to add different key words to each image so I can search for specific species or locatations if I wish to. Not sure if that helps or not.
