Recommendations for a field-worthy point-and-shoot?

Post by Robert Hansen » June 30th, 2013, 5:42 pm

Not for me, but a young friend wanting to have something for the field capable of taking decent herp shots. He does not know an f-stop from ISO, so please don't suggest he go the DSLR route :)

I don't keep up with reviews on P&S cameras, so really have no idea what the best options are. Recommendations appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Robert, I recently purchased a Cannon S110 and I'm pretty happy with it

This is the only herp shot I've taken with it so far.

The Panasonic Lumix series are very good cameras, with some having the capability of the equivalent of a 400mm lens. I would also throw out the rugged type of P&S camera's. I have an Olympus Stylus tough series. These are waterproof, shock proof, freeze proof, crush proof etc. Their is a Canon counterpart that friends have and like really well. These cameras lack the zoom, but have of course other features.
