Tripod options?

I'm on the market for a tripod, with a catch.

I want something small and compact, but bigger than a tabletop tripod. Anyone make anything that maxes out between 3-4 feet, yet can collapse small enough for a backpack?

I've borrowed a few full size tripods, but tend to shoot everything hand held. Working with a Laowa wide angle macro it would be useful to be able to use a tripod to be able to have more flexibility with the aperture settings.

Joseph have you tried a monopod?
I have used one for more than a decade.
I have "shooting stick" I bought at Walmart, cheap.
It comes with a plastic fork on the end (I guess for supporting a rifle).
That is easily removed and the remaining bolt fits to any DSLR body.

It is light and compact. For about $10, it works.
I use it mostly for birds and lizards, where I use a bigger lens, or need stability for distance.
It can also be use to "encourage" crotes off the highway to safety.

:D

I've considered a monopod as well.

Have you tried shooting video off one?

They are less stable than tripods, but certainly more stable than an unused tripod

What cameras do yall use? For dslr, pal and ntsc, good tripods new are expensive. The cheapest tripod for a dslr I've found is about $20 except those I bought at garage and yard sales. That $20 tripod broke in a couple months. GoPro gear is always dirt cheap unless you're buying a drone.

Here's what I use for my Gopro Hero3

I use a Gitzo explorer which is expensive, but the off-center, adjustable center column allows you to get more creative with tripod shots than for just about any other tripod. That said, I've heard good things about the MeFOTO travel tripods where you can get both tripod and monopod in one. When getting a tripod, though, it is worth noting that cheap tripods are cheap for a reason, and they're probably more problem than they're worth. You get what you pay for for tripods.
