A couple of plugs

Post by Mike VanValen »

Discovering Amphibians : Frogs and Salamanders of the Northeast

A neat little book with some great field stories, by fellow CT herper, John Himmelman.

A Guide to Amphibians and Reptiles of Costa Rica

A true guide for the field. If you have to bring a book to Costa Rica, bring this one. Authored by field herper extraordinaire and my friend, Twan Leenders.

I know Twan, excellent at tropical herp ID. I captured one of the frogs pictured in his book for him. I thought his book was out of print though? He should definately do a second edition.

Here is my plug:

I have the book spinifer posted. It is a great book, and with spin's help on the new edition, kick's even more butt.

If I google Delmarva I find that it's either Maryland, Delaware or Virginia. Sorry but such an esoteric book could be tough to market.

The book is actually about the Delmarva Peninsula which if you look at a map, is the peninsula situated between Delaware Bay and Chesapeake Bay. I don't know about how they have fared marketing the book, but it is esoteric - I agree. I'm speaking completely on assumption, but I would think the book was a labor of love, and the specific group of people that seek it out will be delighted. Roger Conant sings its praises. Check it out if you get a few extra bucks. It is really well done.

Conant must have sang its praises, he passed away some time ago.

I should have been more clear. He is quoted on the back cover and had nice things to say. Hence, I was speaking from the present perspective.
