China fieldguides

Post by Tim Leerschool »

Hi all,

Together with my girlfriend I've been planning a 2,5 months during trip to China. During this trip I fortunately have time to herp around. Our trip will focus on the Southern part of China (see image)

For preparation I've been gathering data and I have found three different field guides concerning reptiles and amphibians in China (see link):

http://www.chinascientificbooks.com/atl ... na-p-1669/

http://www.chinascientificbooks.com/col ... es-p-1871/

http://www.amazon.com/Atlas-Amphibians- ... 7534918359

I have some idea about the contents of the books but I am wondering if you have any more suggestions or experience with these field guides? Are there any relatively good field guides? I wish to get myself a bit known with the species there before I venture off.

I am looking forward to your replies.

with the best regards,

Tim

Hey Craigb,

thank you for you reply. I will consider the book. Indeed it is pricey, but I'd rather invest in a good book that I can use instead of buying a less helpful book. Especially considering this will not be my last visit to China.

You found the 'Herpetology of China' useful, also to take with you in the field?

I am very much looking forward to the trip, thanks you for your kind wishes.

With the best regards,

Tim

An honourable cause to travel to China indeed.

Reading Chinese will not be a very big problem since my girlfriend can understand and speak Mandarin fluently. I will make my decision soon and will let you know what I chose. Maybe it will be helpful for your next trip!

Thanks anyways and with kind regards,
