Ben, it was a tarpon. the hook straightened out at boatside; happens all the time and isn't a big deal at all. (I just thought it was an interesting photo so I put it up.)

You know, Tim,
That picture stirs more emotions than a whole line up of trophy shots.
.
There's just some magical draw to a spot in the river, a lake, a fly or lure, a retreval technique, etc. that is a whole different level because you hooked a big one, and had it get away......

(But then, I'm also the guy that likes the low-light pic of a dirt road through pretty hab better WITHOUT the moc stretched out than with.)

i wish it would happen to me all the time. tarpon are awesome.

fishing opener is next saturday. shallow water muskies. yay! i just hope i won't end up with pictures of straightened hooks.

your's is definitely greener. still pretty cold here. snakes have been relatively inactive, except for garters on sunny days. night time temps are still in the thirties. i did flip a fox snake on friday, so the big game is starting to move. we need a stretch of warm nights. i think that would be a big help.
