Continued Attack on Endangered Species

Post by BBastarache »

The bill to kill the MA Endangered Species Act: Senate Bill 1854 has been re-designated House Bill 4208, and has officially been sent to the House Committee on Ways and Means. There is a campaign of misinformation about the MESA and what 4208 does and doesn’t do. The bill does is make the statute and regulations unworkable and takes away the funding source for regulating under MESA. It offers no plan for how to protect endangered species.

Don't take my word for it. See what the MA Audubon Society has to say about this (slightly dated) http://www.massaudubon.org/news/newssto ... &type=news

Call your legislators and tell them to OPPOSE House Bill 4208.

Sentiment for conservation will wane along with the economy. Unfortunately, to have a strong economy means growing resource extraction, development and pollution. ...unless you have strong regulations, which handicaps our national economy on the global playing field. We could though bide time by becoming extreme isolationists and converting to a barter system but ultimately that too will fail because you can only fit some many people on one piece of land. Point is, when it comes down to the last loaf of bread, there will be no conservation. ...not that I'm cynical or anything ...just sayin' :(

On the other hand, I'm all for doing what we can and hoping for the best. :D

Just read this relevant information:
Fareed Zakaria wrote:For all the doomsday prophesies about the American economy, one reason to remain optimistic in the long run is demographics.

Accounting for births, deaths and new entrants, the U.S. has a net gain of one person every 13 seconds. That works out to about 2.5 million people every year. These people will all need places to live, and so we can actually count on a future growth in housing, construction and therefore those jobs.
