Dryocopus pileatus in the Crystal Basin?

Post by Robert Jordan »

I'm just curious if anyone has ever seen a Dryocopus pileatus or Pileated Woodpecker around the Lake Tahoe to Crystal Basin areas of the Sierras?

If you go to the data on Ebird.org, you can see that there are a lot of records for the Sierras down to central CA. I was surprised, I never thought of Pileateds as a western species??
