Re: Alphabirding
Here's a Y bird - Lesser Yellowlegs from Port Aransas, TX
Re: Alphabirding
And as far as I can tell, there are no Z birds at all that qualify for this challenge.
So I say we start again, but this time we change the rules again.
This time you are handing off your bird name to the next person. The next person must post a bird whose first name begins with the last letter of the last name of the preceding species.
So, if I post
Resplendant Quetzal
the next bird must start with L, like
Little Blue Heron
which must be followed by an N bird light..
Nankeen Night-Heron
followed by another N bird, etc.
I'm not sure how long we can keep this up? Some letters may kill the cycle.
So, I'll start us off with an A bird
Andean Emerald from Ecuador
Now someone follow with a D bird....

Re: Alphabirding
Kelp Gull
One unanticipated problem with this "game" is that is seems there are some really common letters to end bird names (D, R, L, N, etc).

Re: Alphabirding
OK, Time out.....
It seems I overlooked the fact that most bird names end with just a few common letters which means we are pretty much repeating the letters over and over.
Let's change it up.
Your bird name must be a multi-word name (no Killdeer, Emu, Dunlin, etc).
The bird you post must have two (or more) parts and the next person must post a bird starting with the FIRST letter of the LAST part of the previous bird's name.
So......
Scissor-tailed Flycatcher could be followed by Franklin's Gull, which could then be followed by Greater Ani, then maybe Allen's Hummingbird, etc.
This should spice things up a bit more.

I'm not the best on birds, but I'm pretty sure those are Western Bluebirds.

I think you're right. I need a book lol
Re: Alphabirding
He's right. I wasn't going to say anything, but the thread just hit a snag out here with K... we only have Killdeer that starts with K in the Bay Area. Maybe some one has a Kentucky Warbler to postherper79 wrote:I think you're right. I need a book lol
