Is that from Cuyahoga Valley NP?
I was down there a few years ago and saw one there. I mentioned it on our bird listserv and I guess for a number of years now there has been one living in the park. If you saw it in the valley, it is likely the same one. I have seen a few white R-T at this point, but they are always really awesome to see.

Yes, Andy it was near the Farmer's Market where it is thought to have a nest.

I showed my dad this post (he's a falconer who used to fly a red-tail), and he mentioned seeing something that was almost the opposite, but not quite. He said he saw a red-tail that was extremely dark but not quite black, with a deep maroon tail. The surprising thing was that the color wasn't washed out - the red and brown were still there, they were just extremely darkened. He says in all his literature he's never seen a report of anything like that. (And it was easily the prettiest red-tail he'd ever seen in his opinion.) Has anyone here seen anything like that?

Excellent-looking hawk! The second photo reminds me of a cockatoo.
There used to be a similar redtail hawk in my neighborhood. I saw it numerous times over a period of 6 years, but I don't recall seeing it since last year. In 2012 I tried to get some photos of it. I never got very close and the pics are rather poor:
I hope to see it and it's offspring soaring overhead someday soon!
