Not 100% on the second Prairie Falcon ID. Is this correct?

Nice pics! Your Red-tail is a Swainson's, and your second Prairie is actually a Ferruginous Hawk.

Oh, cool. Thanks for the corrections. I thought the prairie falcon was wrong. What's the give a way on the Swainson's Hawk? Its all still new to me. Trying to figure out how to ID these.cbernz wrote:Nice pics! Your Red-tail is a Swainson's, and your second Prairie is actually a Ferruginous Hawk.

The slim build, long wingtips, and facial pattern were the clues I used. Buteos are hard, and Red-tails are so variable, they can look like almost anything. The Ferruginous is the only large buteo that will be almost completely pale underneath with dark rufous thighs.Rancorrye wrote:Oh, cool. Thanks for the corrections.
