Bird ID please

Post by Noah M »

First up is what I would guess to be a female dabbling duck of some variety.

It was observed on Friday in Levy, Co Florida along a spring that flows to the Suwannee River.

Secondly, observed in the woods in the same park as the spring was this little bird. It was seen low to the ground, often on the ground, but occasionally hopping around low branches of underbrush. I've been told it is a Hermit Thrush

The duck has mallard blood, but isn't a purebred.
The other is a Hermit Thrush.

With the vermiculation on some of the feathers, I would be surprised if there were some Gadwall in that bird.

It is kinda nice knowing the duck is hard to ID and that it isn't just my own lack of skill.

Thanks for the effort guys - mallard/gadwall hybrid perhaps. Or Frankenduck....
