Leucistic Hummingbird?

Post by Antonsrkn »

Hello all,

I was hoping some of you more knowledgeable folks could help me resolve something.

During a recent trip to Ecuador I saw this hummingbird which was different than the others around. I am including a few photos and Id love to hear some opinions on what this is. I'm thinking leucistic white necked jacobin, or is it maybe a strangely colored brown violet ear? Something I'm just not thinking of? How common is something like this?

Some further info, this was in the El Oro Province in Ecuador on the west slope of the Andes at about 500-600m asl in forested habitat.

I'm thinking your first instinct could be right. No matter what it is, it's super cool :thumb:

certainly looks like a leucistic to me but I have zero knowledge of the birds in Ecuador. Nice!

Excellent, thanks for the feedback guys, glad you enjoyed! So I'm gonna go ahead and pencil it into the records as a leucistic white necked jacobin unless someone chimes in with a different idea.
