That I don't have an answer for, but I would guess it is possibly a female squirrel and the snake was in it's nest after it's young maybe? Something like that? Rabies?

It kinda looks like the squirrels that hunt rattlesnakes, or the squirrel was defending it's territory.

look on the site, that isnt the only timber they have caught on live cam, check it out

That's awesome! And frankly it kind of scares me.. I didn't not see the snake at all until it struck....

I have seen a Timber crawl into brush only a few inches tall, and I couldn't see it a foot or two from my face. They can disappear scary fast.
