Southern Nevada Road Cruise

Post by Attila »

Connie & I went out road cruising last night. It started out bad two DORs, one was a gopher and the other we didn't stop to look at. But things picked up:

We found this Western Long-nosed (R. Lecontei) on a side road. I don't like in hand shots but this little guy wouldn't sit still for pictures otherwise. It had very little red on it.

This little Kingsnake (L. g. californiae) was in the road & I managed to get him off before 3 cars came flying by. He paid me back by biting me twice:

Then we ran across a herd of wild burros:

The last find of the night was this little Sidewinder (C. c. cerestes)

Yeah, that king was nice. I love the white spot in the middle of its head and he didn't even musk me!

I've seen several Longnose south of Las Vegas, but never any as black-and-white as that one. Oh, that cal king is pretty cool, too!

Longnose I found near Boulder City last month (most of them I've seen look like this):

This one was NW of Vegas and its the first one I've seen since moving here last year so I don't have anything to compare it to for this area. Yours definitely has a serious busy pattern going on. I keep telling myself I'm going to get back out to see if I scare up some more representation of the area, but I've been too busy the last couple weeks.

I love the Cal King. I know it's not "clean" like everyone (or at least most?) seem to prefer but I think the spots add character. Very pretty. The Long nose rocks too!
In closing: Nice ass'!

Nice longnose. I've yet to see a black and white one.
