I may well be stuck shed, in either case, most caution against pulling of stuck shed, especially eyecaps. I believe it is safest to apply mineral oil occasionally over a day or two gently by q-tip or finger, then see how they respond to a gentle massage. If they don't seem to loosen, continue periodic application of the mineral oil and keep in a moist environment (a box with a wet terry cloth towel works very well). If they are indeed stuck caps and you keep lubed he shood cast them off with his next shed. I've had that issue and this has worked well for me. Just takes patience and care. The important thing, as Jim mentioned, is to keep them moist as the keratin becomes very brittle and can constrict or suffocate the underlying tissue.

If in fact it is not stuck eyecaps, you could only make it worse with any forceful action. Give it the right condtions and it should resolve itself.

I hope I never see that many of ANY snake, in a year, much less a few months. Diminishes the experience (IMO)... and makes the 'ordinary' seems almost inconsequential... which they are NOT. It's all about supply and demand... ask Will...   jim

PS... Brad is what I meant, when it comes to experience with the eye shed deal... take his advice.... :thumb: jim

   ...damn near got a hernia over that one.

Thanks for the kudos Jim. I have had a couple bad issues that resolved nicely. Nothing I made up mysefl though. When they happened I sought advice from Doug Mong and some other gurus. Not sure that's what it is though Repaphin ...but that simply can't hurt and my well help. I say, if you care about the snake, do it :)

Youse guys is just jealous of my skills. I'm sending Guido and Alphonse over to see you...they're gonna teach youse guys about manners... 8-)

Well, it's down to 91 now...had 5 duplicate sightings from my very special spot. What a pain...I had to look at all the pics from the last 3 years and count bands and make notes, then compare pics and remove duplicate entries from the database. I think I have 3 or 4 more to remove...OY!!! The things i do to keep the database pure... but still, I've ID'd 43 different kings from one field and 5 from a smaller one in the same area. The project moves on...

Well, quite frankly, I'd take a dark brown and cream, anyday king under a shitty piece of plywood over the zilch I got in a quick boa trip out to the LD on a snipe hunt last night. Nothin' knockin', not even a winder ...wtf? I'm so burnt out and depressed right now. :(

There's no way you could catch all of them, its just too hard. I bet 50% or better are repeat finds, so no I'm not impressed with your numbers at all. ;)

Sorry but back on topic...

I just showed this to a good friend who knows a ton about this kind of thing. Here's his reply.
Pete wrote:A vet at Conejo Vets blinded a burmese with stuck caps by pulling them off. They bond with a form of animal glue to the underlying eye structure. I use jojoba oil because it penetrates so well, but mineral oil is OK. If you put jojoba oil on your skin it soon vanishes; mineral oil does not penetrate transdermally. Jojoba oil is chemically similar to sperm whale oil, but for all of that it may be the new snake oil.

Yep, he's beat up alright, but look at it as battle scars ...that is one tough survivor ...his genes are lilkely premium! Probably at least 15-20 years. It's pretty cool if you can get by "the ugly" 8-) Give him all your respect! :thumb:

I share your frustration, Ross :( So long as he has "I'm a happy boy... hubba hubba hubba" going off in his head, I'm afraid it's an exercise in futility.
