Can you tell what it is?

I didn't notice anything under the tin at first, and I almost put it down. Then I noticed the tail, and at first, I thought it was a racer's tail. Then I realized I could see the head, and I knew what it was. There is another opening to the burrow just out of the picture. I poked my finger in it to feel the snake, and the snake came shooting out the hole you can see in the picture.

Darnit. Hog was my next guess, I just have never seen one act in any way that could be described as "came shooting out the hole".

Fun quiz.

It didn't shoot out as fast as a racer or something would, but it came out pretty quick.
