What a spectacle!

Post by Kent VanSooy » May 25th, 2012, 1:43 pm

We went to a favorite spot the other afternoon, and found something we see there often - a Red Diamond rattler. I forgot to turn my flash on for this first shot, but the shadow in the background gave it a nice effect...

Here's a portrait of the same snake (now with flash)

When we first saw this snake on the road, for a moment we honestly didn't know what it was - an escaped tiger rattlesnake, perhaps? An Australian Death Adder? We'd never seen one like it! And it's the only one I've ever seen at this particular location, so it will make a valuable addition to the database.

I see that patterning fairly often, up my way... but not those colors... The rust reminds me of the tail colors on the speck I found at the Escondito Creek Conservancy...

Love the first ruber shot. Love specks. Both Kent's and Jim's look amazing. A little rain here in HB today....

Those colors are common in the (edited), but none I've seen were as nice as this one. Nice find, guys.

Wow! Awesome Speck! Nice Ruber shot too (I like the close-up with the flash showing detail).

Either I've been lucky or we are herping two different areas. Maybe, I didn't explain my self right. They are not as bright orange as that one and their bands are not that defined, but they are close in color.

That is a gorgeous Speck, Kent.
The pattern on that one in Jim's pic is trippy. Love to see one like that. They're beautiful Crotes.
