If that garden center has a greenhouse they could be breeding in there year-round and you could have anoles of any age, anytime of year. Just a guess

As a matter of fact, females of many anole species (A. segrei included) have a diminutive dewlap. I have seen females desplay, even my captive females will do it. Harrison and Poe (2012) have an interesting paper about this topic.

Size isnt everything. Sometimes its the bob.
Anoles are spectacular. Such a wonderful and dramatic bunch. I think I like the term diminutive dewlap. much better than dewlap envy..
