Swiss lizard ID?

Post by geofri » June 24th, 2012, 9:06 am

My friend just emailed me this photo.

What a beautiful lizard, a bit tegu-esk.

Anyone familiar with the species?

It is some sort of Lacertid. Not sure how many species of lacertid lizards occur in Switzerland but a quick google search came up with Podarcis muralis.

That lizard looks fairly green. That would suggest a species of Lacerta.

There are three species in Switzerland; L. agilis, L. bilineata, or L. viridis.

Hard to tell from the photo, but my guess is Lacerta agilis.
