A couple quick lifers

I haven't had a lot of time to herp recently and really almost all of my herping is limited to my home state of Kansas. At the beginning of July I spent a few days in the high mountains of Colorado. On the way home I had just enough time to check out one road in the Plains of eastern Colorado. I came away with one snake on the quick detour. It was my lifer Viridis!

Over the past weekend my wife and I visited a couple friends in Oklahoma. My wife and I decided to go out for a bit of night cruising, and much to our surprise our friends decided to come to, (especially surprising since one of the friends is 9 months pregnant). We only saw one snake but it was a sweet lifer!

Congrats! That first individual of a new species is always exciting.

I like the photo of the viridis skulking in the grass just off the road.

The Viridis went into the classic coil soon after that picture, and the camera wouldn't focus on him in the long grass. I thought about moving him to get better pictures but decided that discretion was the better part of valor.

Yeah, that was quite a surprise, not really what I was expecting. Nice to see another Kansan on here, maybe we can meet up sometime.
