We found a four-meter reticulated python in a staring contest with a house cat tonight. The cat moved as soon as I got out of the car, and the snake also hauled tail a bit later, so this is the only voucher shot I have of the spectacle, but WHAT A SPECTACLE IT WAS! Man, I just love this island ...

PS: When I told my wife about this, she said, "Why didn't you just grab the snake with your hands? It's not venomous.". Clearly, I need to provide her with a bit more insight about the mechanics involved in a 60-pound rope made from insanely strong muscles, and with 120+ very large, curved teeth attached to one end :-)

Forgot to mention that the flash malfunctioned...hence the Blair Witch atmosphere. Which is cool, I guess :-)

Re-reading all of the Borneo Dispatches, it is clear that this post deserved some responses, but got none. That is just wrong. I could not let it stand.

What an amazing sight!

This post was well before my time, so I never saw it haha.

I for one enjoy the lighting of the photo. I prefer the night-shots that fade to black outside of whatever artificial light we provide. In my opinion it adds to the "effect" and "story" of herping at night.

I love Reticulated Pythons. And I like the Night Moves effect too that Simus said.

There are never enough photos of reticulated pythons in the Natch.
