September Bragging Rights

Post by Calfirecap »

September can be a tough year for finding herps, but the lizards were plentiful on a short trip I took out to Montana for one of those rare fishing trips with the boys. Unfortunately most of the snakes seen were DOR Gophers. But all in all I'd say very successful: Data Base records for 4 states, 19 Counties, 16 species, and 7 County records. Here's a sampling:

Other than Sept being a month, rather than a year, I'd agree that your totals certainly are worth bragging about. Catch any fish?   jim

Thanks guys, it was a great trip and I always enjoy herping in other states. Very few records from MT, WY, ID, and still lot's of counties without any records at all. Very easy to get Co records, three of the records were simply DOR Great Basin Gophersnakes.
Jim yes we did get fish, Rainbows and of all things Arctic Grayling.
Brian, in all reality I took your lead from a post sometime back about herping new places rather than the regulars.

I am honored that I somehow helped you with that, but it was your effort, money, and time. Those are great records.. It's quite fun to look that map and see which counties need records and to find some herps in those counties.. It makes finding the smallest lizard fun, and makes finding DOR gopher snake fun even. :thumb:  Its trips like that that and doing the database stuff,
that have changed the excitement levels of my herping trips, and made them fun.

Made props to you.. Most worthy of Bragging rights, IMO..

We might have a California VS Northeast DB contest next year, and we will need efforts like this to win.

Much of my herping anymore revolves around going to new places for new records..
I have a really fun Rosy Boa Mapping project going on, along with (to a lesser degree) a
kingsnake mapping project.. Not to mention, trying to get county records and Mexico efforts.

Grayling huh, How about a grayling picture?

Anyway thanks for sharing your Bragging worthy trip. (wish more members would brag about what they are entering into the DB)
