we've been *very* warm lately, hitting high 90s to 100, so I've been out in the evenings after work, around 7-8 after it starts cooling down.
I've seen more boxies and horned lizards this year than in the previous 2 put together. Fairly light on snakes, but they are out there.

There ain't a part of this state without amazing herpetofauna. I love it  My folks live in the suburbs of houston and I've seen buttermilk racers, nerodia, texas rats and thamnophis in their yard. They've got what sounds like a mud snake that frequents the neighborhood but I ain't seen it yet. I want to though. Really really want to.

Texas herps are great, I'm from near SA and it's awesome except that a live Texas ratsnake still eludes me. I only ever find them DOR and it annoys me.
I'd love to go to Houston and find buttermilk racer cause those are amazing.

There's one that lives in/near my mom's compost heap. Seems to lay it's eggs and overwinter (during what Houstonians call a winter) in it. I peek in and say high about once a visit  Gotta love it. She's a beauty.

That's cool, I have an emory ratsnake that lives in a hole by our pool whom I see about twice a month. The last DOR Texas ratsnake I found was brilliantly colored. There is a pic on this link. viewtopic.php?f=2&t=10
