It's 9 months away but if anyone is planning to carpool, and if you have room for little ole' me, I would like to arrange to meet up somewhere. PM me to discuss.

Re: 2013 NAFHA National Meeting
We'll probably fly in, either to New Bern (via Charlotte) or Raleigh (it's about a 2.5 hour drive), and rent a car.
Re: 2013 NAFHA National Meeting
Just a heads up, I live across the street from the Croatan, and we fly pretty often. New Bern is good, but also consider Jacksonville, NC and Wilmington, NC. Jax is about 30 mins from the forest, and Wilmington (which is actually a big airport) is about 1.5 hours.ZantiMissKnit wrote:We'll probably fly in, either to New Bern (via Charlotte) or Raleigh (it's about a 2.5 hour drive), and rent a car.
Raleigh is big, but that 2.5 hour drive is a pain.
Wilmington also has a ton of herp spots on it's own so if you had an extra day or two, it would be a good place to fly into. Only place I've found a pygmy rattle. Wilmington by itself is an awesome town. I lived there about 10 years, and it has everything you want, but not a crazy size like Raleigh or Charlotte.

Re: 2013 NAFHA National Meeting
We've done the Charlotte to New Bern flight a few times, and will do it if the timing is right. It wasn't right for our upcoming trip in April, and the drive from Raleigh allows us to do a wee bit of herping at rest stops. New Bern is the closest airport to my mother-in-law's house, and we may end up doing that in September.
Re: 2013 NAFHA National Meeting
Just a heads up, they closed the rest stop area near the I-40 and I-95 interchange. Not sure why, but looks like they are remodeling it.
I wish I could get some help with a herp inventory of my park. We have a good database going back to the 70s and 80s of every kind of plant and animal, but some herps I would expect to see here have never been found, and others only once or twice. Of course some things like a Green Anole that we see daily we don't spend time entering any more, but others we would enter right away, like if we found a copperhead.

Ben,I wish I could get some help with a herp inventory of my park.
What park? If you could get the group permission, doing a bioblitz type survey could be incorporated into the meeting. Especially if you could grant access to "closed" areas or going on the property at night.
Re: 2013 NAFHA National Meeting
I'll talk it over with my Superintendent. I would love to have some help, and the park is pretty small and could be covered quickly.
Re: 2013 NAFHA National Meeting
Are there any definates in our chapter for attending this trip?
