Went out today with my camera I got for X-mas...Weather was clear but definetly crisp here in Alameda County...Turned out to be a pretty decent day in the field. No kingsnake flip like last weekend though ....In total...Not counting Neonate Fences, or slenders...5 Gilberti's, 3 Ca red legged frogs, 3 TreeFrogs, 2 Ca toads, 7 large Fences, and some RAD arachnids...not bad for the end of the year in 40 something-ish weather.
Habitat Shots
No Boardlines here, just straight nature
First Flip of the day
2nd Flip....Fence,Fence, Slender
Had a pretty good feeling the day was gonna be a decent one.
Once in the Skink Zone
Moving Down The hill a bit
Frozen Fence
Slender Sally's
UnIdentified as of yet Spider
I love these guys
Hmm some running water....
Lil Bufo
Tree frog
Aaanndd a couple of these guys..
Not too bad of a day after all...FYI skinks, espescially Gilberts are a PITA to photo.
Hiking out...calling it a day

Yeah today was literally the first time firing it, still trying to figure out the macro settings, getting these critters to pose is frustrating, I gave up on quite a few today lol.

Good stuff. MAYBE... reduce the size of you pics a bit, so folks don't have to scroll to see the pic and/or read the text. I can reduce it myself, to see the whole pic... but then the text is too small for me to read...(i'm old)
That first Gilberti you show looks EXACTLY like what I saw in Santa Cruz... right on the beach... but everyone insists what I saw had to be a Skiltons...
Have fun with your new camera...(luuuucky) jim

There doesn't appear to be any Gilberts recorded yet in the database.

Nice post. It's not too often that we see any Bay Area gilberti posted... cool finds.
That habitat is so damned beautiful, I would have had a grand day, herps or no herps!

Some good East Bay finds for the last day of the year for sure. Your spider is Titiotus, family Tengellidae - the genus is endemic to California and its full taxonomy is still being worked out, but in the Alameda County it is most likely T. californicus or T. costa. The centipede is Scolopendra polymorpha, a member of the tropical centipede family Scolopendridae.

I had looked up the spider when I got home that day and all the info I could find on it was minimal, at best, I have since been calling them Tit spiders....easy to remember...giggity....scientific names have always been hard for me.The blue centipedes have always been a favorite of mine, especially when they are bigger.

Do you mean for the NAFHA database, or have they ever been vouchered from Alameda Co.? If the latter, the answer is yes. The type locality for Plestiodon gilberti cancellosus is in Alameda Co., and if you're finding these skinks where I think you are, you are very, very close to the type locality.jared68nova wrote:Have Gilberts been voucherd in alameda county yet?
Very nice to see some juv. cancellosus posted. If someone takes the time to photo and post a pink-tailed gilberti on FHF, it's almost always a rubricaudatus.
