Nice! Love the in-situ shots, particularly the tins. Good think you have those other books stacked on top of Hubbs', something's gotta hold those lightweights down!

Absolutely loved this post.
The "in-situ, as flipped" shots were amazing! Really brought be to those rock fields and tin lines!
Although all those snakes were great (especially that little milk from Eastern Ks), I think my favorite shot were of the Collard Lizards in-situ under a rock!
All the pics of Collards here (and in books, etc) show them basking or bouncing around rock to rock. Very cool to see them underneath cover!

Good stuff, Brandon. Love all the PK's. I didn't find a single one in Arkansas or Oklahoma this year.

Hi Zach, I was looking for milksnakes on a roadcut in Kansas in 2011 and was surprised when I found this one under a big rock. Beautiful animal. And feisty! I got a great video of it lunging at my camera lens. I had no idea they were so pretty.Zach_Lim wrote:...I think my favorite shot were of the Collard Lizards in-situ under a rock! Awesome stuff. Love that area. Nice artifacts as well--that's my main hobby other than herping. Herpers would find tons of arrowheads and other artifacts if they were part of their search image. Did you find them in a creek/lakeshore area?

Love all the habitat shots Brandon. Cass Co. looks interesting. Always love the syspila, but that Timber would have made my year.
Do you ever catch/find Snapping turtles while Catfish fishing?
John F. would be happy with those arrowheads you've found. And your daughter is getting big, didn't you just have her like two months ago.

Thanks everyone for the kind words
to comment and answer some questions Zach a big part of why collareds are not seen under cover is because it's usually hard to get an in situ photo of them like that, a lot of times they run out before you can get the rock all the way up.
Some of the artfiacts were found in a creek and some were found in my buddies back yard, the creek is not that far from my buddies yard either.
Dell I have two daughters lol, One of them is three and the other is one. That Cass co spot is very unique for the area it looks more typical of a really nice Ks spot, most the outcroppings in cass are not vary vast and are spotty, this area is huge theres no way I would be able to hunt it all in one day by myself. I rarely catch snapping turtles while cat fishing, I usually use live bait though, when I use stinky dead bait, or chicken livers I do sometimes catch them, I catch red eared sliders with fresh cut bait sometimes as well, I usually have to snip the barb end off my hooks to unhook them so I dont damage the turtles to bad.

that baby flathead. was that really a flathead? i've found madtoms that i thought were flatheads. that would be a serious aquarium fish. we always tried to find the smallest of everything. you can fit a lot of cool fish in an aquarium that way. i think the smallest flatty i ever got was around six inches. flatheads are awesome. i like how they paste about four feet of slime on your line. easy to tell what you had on when you lose them. nice herping year as well.

I was way wrong.... Lol
Yours:
Mine: (similar, but no dice. It's the funny dot on the nose that I thought I recognized. also, Mine was found in 2010, and would be BIG by now. )
Yours:
It was the two dots, but no dice here either. not too similar after all, and yours has a misband.
by the way I LOVE this one: such a beauty!

Justin thanks buddy I like Mo better than Ks although Ks is a lot easier, I would love and will get to the east side of Mo and into your state soon
Ben
I am pretty sure It was a flat head I have never found a madtom, I found 7 others that day around the same size one was about three times the size it was found in deeper water and under a log, that one I found while looking for arrowheads and bait in farely shallow water in early august. It would have been a great aqaurium fish and I thought that when i found him, but I think its best to have one set up prior to finding such a specimen
Gary thanks for the words my friend hopefully we can get together this year and flip some nice flat slabs of limestone together
Dan Yeah I think my snakes were from diferent counties and the last one was from a diferent state I thought I marked the county and state prior to the photos? Yours look like that one county in Ks that has Mo. looking milks in it the one county the county my Ks milks were from was a tiny bit south and west from that awesome county your milks were from this county is awesome as well but just doesnt have the same qaulity, tons of qauntity though, be good to flip some nice flat slabs of limestone with you too buddy!
