Always nice to see good shots of chucks. With those decent pics, sooner or later someone is going to accuse you of having talent.

Love the photo with Vegas in the background. Grismeresque with a touch of Orwell.

I moved back to Las Vegas this time last year. I moved from Florida where I used to see a lot of snakes when I would go out looking. Here in Nevada I haven't seen one yet in the wild. I once saw a Cal King on a hike off 160 between LV and Pahrump. I'm guessing now that it's spring I should go out in the evenings of warmer days and look near the edges of the road. Have any suggestions?

The next month or so is prime time in the Mohave Desert. Take full advantage of spring. Once summer hits, finding stuff is much more difficult.

When the temperatures are in the low 90's you can find snakes all day hiking.

Road cruising is another good way to find snakes.

I was in Vegas over the weekend and it seemed too dry to flip much. There were a few rocks with moisture in washes but I think the flipping window has probably closed.

Snakes are harder to come by in Nevada than in the east but that's part of the journey.

What species are you interested in finding?

I would like to see any one of the four types of rattlers. I once saw a maintenance guy get rid of one behind the hotel I worked at outside of Boulder City. Other than that I have never seen one anywhere here near LV. I've hiked all sorts of trails here and I usually try to go one one's that I won't run into a lot of people on. I'll try going in the evening or early morning a bit more and maybe then I'll have some luck. I just want to get some good video of one. I got a great video of a Pygmy Rattler in the Green Swamp in Florida but that is the only rattler I've ever seen in the wild.

I just moved from Vegas to WY in Jan & I'm missing the herping I could be doing down there right now. Last week it snowed & blew so hard I Had a 3-4' drift in front of my garage I had to bust through to go to work. I'd found and photographed three species of rattlesnakes (Specks, Panamint & Sidewinder) along with Gophers, Kings, Long-nosed & Black-headed snakes along with several species of lizards while I lived there. Send me a PM & I'll point you in a few directions.

I appreciate the offer Attila, but I am intimately familiar with the area and its herpetofauna.

Funny that it's been about a year since I posted to this thread. I've been hiking a lot more lately. I've seen a few desert iguanas, some chuckwallas, and fence lizards. I even saw a mule deer in Lovell Canyon. Still haven't seen a rattler but I'll be out looking. Hope all of you are doing well.

Stick with it Juxtaposition109. This is prime time for rattlesnakes. They are definitely out and moving.
