It certainly looks different, but what makes you think it is a cross? Are you able to disclose any details?

I'll tell you what I know. Tom Crutchfield posted it on Facebook, then a guy that had seen the snake said it was in fact a cross and the only resultant offspring of the pairing. It has no rattle but a short stubby tail. This is the extant of my knowledge on this specimen.

Thanks for the update. Lots of crazy and unlikely hybrids have been produced in captivity. So ... I would not rule it out.
I'll remain skeptical, but curious, until more details and photos surface.

Harry Greene has had one of these for years. Apparently it rattles its tail vertically even though it has no rattles.

Are there any better photos of it?

Someone better lump those two species now

Very interesting. I would be interested in learning more or seeing any additional pictures of this snake.

More photos would be cool. As others have stated, strange things are created in captivity...

There supposedly is a pickled Timber x Massassauga in Iowa. It's still legend and hearsay, but I've heard about it a few times.

This is published. E-mail me and I can send the paper (with a couple photos).justinm wrote:There supposedly is a pickled Timber x Massassauga in Iowa. It's still legend and hearsay, but I've heard about it a few times.
BAILEY, R. M. 1942. An intergeneric hybrid rattlesnake. American Naturalist 76:376–385.
Naturally occurring intergeneric hybrid snakes are very rare.
