Well, since I finished school last week after doing my senior thesis I have been binge herping in order to occupy myself.
On Sunday I decided to go herp along the Guadeloupe river, and I ended up being pleasantly surprised.
First off, I found this massive Western Coachwhip Coluber (Masticophis) flagellum testaceus hanging out in the middle of the path.

I measured him out, ended up being 6' 3", thus tying for the longest snake Ive seen in the wild with a massive Central Texas Whipsnake I found a few years back.

This snake had a wicked strike range, he hit me a few times in the chest while trying to bite my face.

After the release.

Next snake was a welcome find,
Western Cottonmouth Agkistrodon piscivorous leucostema

This guy was really dark.

Next was a more colorful Cottonmouth.

I used my GoPro to get some close up footage.
He ended up striking the camera twice.
Most of this is water, but you can see a bit of the yellowish venom on there up at the top.

Next Snake was a larger Cottonmouth.

Cottons are quite common where I was.
Sometimes you have to watch your step.

You really have to watch your step in some places.

I stepped about 4 inches in front of this snake, and thankfully it did not strike.

Last snake of the day was this little Blotched Watersnake Nerodia erythrogaster transversa

Re: Guadeloupe Herping
Sick post. The habitat looks like fun times to be poking around in...even with all the camo-ed Cottonmouths everywhere (or because of).
