Some recent random finds.

Post by yolodave »

A few random pics from two locations.

One is the Panoche Hills in the Coast Range. I need to go to Fresno once a month from the Coast, so I usually take the long way back home. This area is desolate, dry and beautiful:

The common lizard here is the Side-blotched Lizard:

Thought I'd take a look under that cardboard. Do you see something on the left?

Back home at the Elkhorn Slough, this large Ring-necked Snake was under one of my boards. About 24"

This Coast Garter Snake was also under a board:

The other morning this gopher snake was sunning itself on the side of the trail.

Several Western Fence Lizards were also active:

Finally encountered my first Kingsnake at the Elkhorn Slough. This beauty was on the road.

The tortoise was not impressed:

AND NOW, the real reason for this post. I wanted to share this beautiful bolo tie my wife beaded for me.

It's one of a kind and I can't wait to wear it somewhere fancy.

Thanks for looking.

To me, that is an unusual looking oreganus. Paler and with much more pronounced "coontail." I saw one 2 years ago about 15 miles W. of Panoche that was classic N. CA oreganus. Very cool.

Great stuff, Dave. I'm going to be spending some time in the Panoche area next weekend, so those shots really whetted my appetite!

Very nice King as well, and the Bolo is excellent!

If I didn't know where that snake was from, I would have thought it was a mojave. Is there any chance of it being a released "pet" or a transplant?

Congrats on the bolo! :thumb: Great job by your wife.

Love the first few senics ...WOW!!!

...and that NorPac is drop dead gorgeous. If I didn't know where it was from I not be sure of what it is.

Nice post, Dave! Some beautiful creatures, as well as some great habitat shots of Panoche.
Very neat bolo! I like that your wife made a tail-end, without the red/orange... she did a fabulous job!
