Green Sea Turtles FYI (Houston-area herpers)

Post by Shane_TX » June 2nd, 2013, 5:16 pm

I spotted three Chelonia today at the Surfside jetty. They were all busy feeding and I didn't have the patience to hope for a good pic. All seen on the channel side. If anyone wants to see any of those fascinating beasts this upcoming week including next weekend it should be a great time based on the marine forecast.....take the long lens and some binocs!

With a little patience, they can be surprisingly easy to get photos of at the jetties. I was amazed the first time I stumbled across them there.

Good pic, Chris. With the water as clear as it was in that photo I'm surprised you didn't stumble upon something like this one that I took a few years ago:

Water was rough and murky today and the turtles weren't loafing, but it should get much better over the next week. When the water is clear patience is not a real necessity :)

Thanks for the tip Shane. It's always fun to see sea turtles in the wild!
