Another rare predation on a snake field observation

Post by Jeremy Westerman » July 2nd, 2013, 10:58 pm

If you thought the Great Blue Heron Eating A wandering Garter was a lucky rare sight I posted a little while ago, check this out:
I saw this guy the other day, I know where the den is and mom has pups so I check on her every now and then.

Apparently so do some other foxes (probably males? Older litter?) I have seen up to 7 Red Foxes at once in this field that is very public smack in the middle of town.

So I was watching this one chase something (I was thinking deer mouse or vole)

and he scoops up a snake! I couldn't believe it! Unfortunately no decent camera was available.

See it dangling there? Now that is awesome! the distance and crummy small pics made identification for voucher impossible but I am thinking another rare garter snake predation observation for me. Cool.
